Schultz named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V

Hamline senior strong safety Tyler Schultz was named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V football team, CoSIDA announced on Thursday.

Schultz, from Rollingstone, Minn., leads the Pipers with 76 tackles (39 solo, 37 assists) through nine games. He also has added seven interceptions with five pass breakups, three fumble recoveries, and two forced fumbles.

His seven interceptions in nine games places Schultz eighth in the nation in picks with 0.8 per game.  In conference play, Schultz is sixth in the MIAC in tackles with 67 (36 solo, 31 assists) through seven games.

Schultz had a streak of four straight games with an interception to open the year.

Schultz is an economics and management major.

To be eligible for Academic All-District, a student-athlete of at least a sophomore standing must have a GPA over 3.2.

The MIAC had 10 players selected to the all-district teams. St. Thomas' P.J. Thiesen, Andrew Ubbelohde, and Ben Kessler, St. John's Jason Good, Corey Weber, and Matt Hawn, Bethel's Phil Porta, Carleton's Luke Muellerleile, and Concordia's Matt Kleber were also selected.
