Schultz named All-MIAC first team; Seliga named to second team

Senior strong safety Tyler Schultz represented the Hamline football team on the All-MIAC first team, the conference office announced on Monday. Senior defensive end Aaron Seliga was named to the second team.

Schultz, from Rollingstone, Minn., was tied for eighth in the nation in interceptions with eight on the season. He led the MIAC in all games and was tied for second in conference play with five picks in eight games.

He led the Pipers with 86 tackles (48 solo, 38 assists) to go along with two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and six pass breakups.

Schultz was named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team earlier in the month.

Seliga, from Inver Grove Heights, Minn., totaled 35 tackles (18 solo, 17 assists) from his defensive end position. He led the Pipers with 6.0 sackes and 9.0 tackles for loss. He forced two fumbles, recovered three fumbles, and broke up eight passes.

The Pipers finished the season with a 3-7 record, 1-7 in the MIAC. Hamline was third in the nation in turnover margin for the season with +2.0 turnovers per contest.
