Pipers fall short against Auggies in double overtime
![]() The Pipers (2-4, 1-4 in the MIAC) came from behind to force the overtime sessions. Trailing 13-6, Hamline quarterback Andrew Seymour scored on a quarterback sneak with 2:59 left on the clock. Hamline went 75 yards on 15 plays in the drive. Seymour picked up a crucial fourth-and-two at the Augsburg 31 when he found first-year wide receiver Jeff Miller for a 24 yard gain down to the 7-yard line. Seymour scored three plays later. In the first overtime, both teams missed field goal opportunities. Augsburg kick Nick Schlieman missed a 32-yarder on the first drive of overtime. Hamline kicker Austin Becker had a 35-yard attempted blocked. Becker would miss from 30 yards on the Pipers' second overtime drive before Schreier's score. Augsburg (1-5, 1-3) held a 7-0 edge at the break after a 12-yard run from quarterback Marcus LeVesseur. The score remained 7-0 until Dahmes scored from 3 yards out with 1:34 left in the third quarter. The extra point was blocked to make the score 7-6. Dahmes finished the game with 118 yards rushing on 31 carries. The Auggies' Garry Ashby-Phan added a 29-yard touchdown run to make the score 13-6. Ashby-Phan had nine carries for 73 yards. The Pipers were able to contain LeVesseur for most of the game. He was held to 74 yards rushing on 26 attempts. He went 20 of 26 passing for 185 yards. Schreier caught seven passes for 110 yards. Seymour was 13 of 21 passing for 124 yards for Hamline. He completed five passes to Miller for 42 yards. The Pipers will host St. Olaf next Saturday at Klas Field. Game time is 1:00 p.m. |
