Andrew Bennett named first MIAC hitter of the week in 2008
In starting all of Hamline's opening 17 games, Bennett led the Pipers with a batting average of .474 while scoring 23 runs and 23 RBI on 27 hits, including seven doubles and five homeruns. He also had 11 stolen bases on 12 attempts, and drew nine walks while only striking out six times in 57 at-bats. Bennett hit .516 with runners on base, and .529 with runners in scoring position. With a runner on third, he hit .917, tallying 11 RBI in 12 opportunities. In helping the Pipers go 5-4 in complete games played in Arizona (Hamline also concluded, and won, a game that had been started in Minnesota on the first day the season), Bennett hit .677 in going 21-for-31 from the plate, and scored 14 runs and 13 RBI. He only had one strikeout in 31 at-bats in the nine games played in Arizona. The Pipers resume play on Wednesday, March 26, as they play their last double-header at the Metrodome at 9:45 p.m. against Presentation. Hamline is scheduled to open MIAC play on Saturday, March 29 at Carleton at 1:00 p.m. |
