Piper bats can't get past Concordia-Wisconsin

Dan Kaczrowski
The third day of baseball in Arizona didn't bring much luck for the Pipers, as they fell, 6-4, to Concordia-Wisconsin in the Greater Phoenix Invitational on St. Patrick's Day.

Dan Kaczrowski (Jr., St. Anthony, Minn.) continued to do his job in the lead-off spot, singling to put the first Piper runner on base in the game. After Kaczrowski advanced into scoring position on a ground-out by Erik Voldness (Fy., Bloomington, Minn.), he was singled home by Andrew Bennett (Sr., St. Paul, Minn.) for the 1-0 Hamline lead.

In the next two innings, the one-run lead changed hands twice more, as the Falcons countered with two runs in the bottom of the second for a 2-1 lead.

Kaczrowski went to work again in the third, hitting a lead-off single and stealing second. He advanced to third on another Bennett single, and then scored on a sacrifice fly to right field from Ben Smith (Jr., Orono, Minn.) to tie the game.

Voldness, who had reached on a walk the batter before Bennett's single, then scored on Hamline's second sacrifice fly of the inning, this one from Tres Humerickhouse (Fy., Farmington, Minn.)

Kaczrowski added an RBI on a sacrifice fly of his own in the fourth inning, as Bill Sand's (So, White Bear Lake Township, Minn.) run gave the Pipers a 4-2 lead.

The lead disappeared in the sixth when Concordia-Wisconsin scored three runs on three hits to go ahead, 5-4.

The Falcons would add one more run in the bottom of the eighth to finish with the 6-4 victory.

With the loss, the Pipers fall to 6-6 overall.
