Dan Kaczrowski (Jr., St. Anthony, Minn.) went 5-for-10 with four RBI to lead the Hamline University baseball team to a 15-4 and 11-0 sweep of Carleton in Northfield on Wednesday. Brian Martin (Sr., Golden Valley, Minn.) and Matt Mullendore (Fy., Amery, Wis.) picked up the wins on the mound for the Pipers.

The Pipers, making up a double-header against the Knights that was originally scheduled for the opening day of MIAC play, improved to 13-10, 2-2 MIAC with the wins.

In the opening game, Hamline scored a run in the first inning, and added five runs on fours hits in the second, to take 6-1 lead into the third inning. The second inning saw a little of everything, as Bill Sand (So., White Bear Townships, Minn.) drew a leadoff walk, and Skip Fuller (Sr., Minnepaolis, Minn.) doubled to put runners on second and third. Kaczrowski then tallied his first two RBI with a single to right field.

Kaczrowski stole second and third before scoring on a wild pitch, putting the Pipers up 4-0. Andrew Bennett (Sr., St. Paul, Minn.) tripled with Josh Roiger (Sr., West St. Paul, Minn.) on base after a walk to put Hamline up 5-0.

The fifth run of the inning came when Bennett scored on a single from Ben Smith (Jr., Orono, Minn.).

Carleton got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third, and added three more in the fourth, but Hamline proved to be too much for the Knights, scoring twice in fourth and seventh innings and adding five runs in the sixth inning for the 15-4 victory.

In game two, Hamline powered out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning, with Roiger hitting and RBI double and Bennett an RBI triple. It took the Pipers six hits while capitalizing on two Knight errors to build a lead that Carleton wouldn’t touch.

The Pipers scored a run in the second, and Alex Buresh (So., Vadnais Heights, Minn.) hit a one-out two-run homerun in the fourth to put Hamline up 10-0. Buresh also had a sacrifice fly in the sixth to score Smith for the final Piper run of the night.

The Pipers next host Bethel on Monday, April 14, at 2:30 p.m. in a doubleheader rescheduled from earlier in the season.
