Piper baseball sweeps Cobbers![]()
![]() ![]() Hamline scored 11 runs on 15 hits with just one Cobber error in taking the game one victory. The Pipers started off with one run in the first and another in the third inning before jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the fifth with a five-run inning that featured four Piper doubles. In the fifth, Tres Humerickhouse (Fy., Farmington, Minn.) started the inning with a lead-off single. Skip Fuller (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn.) moved him into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt before Dan Kaczrowski's (Jr., St. Anthony, Minn.) RBI double scored Humerickhouse. Kaczrowski, who had advanced to third after his double on a Cobber error, scored when Roiger doubled to center field on the next at-bat. The Cobbers then intentionally walked Andrew Bennett (Sr., St. Paul, Minn.), which allowed Ben Smith (Jr., Orono, Minn.) to collect two RBI as he drove home Bennett and Smith with a double. Alex Buresh (So., Vadnais Heights, Minn.) then hit the fourth Hamline double of the inning to score Smith to put the Pipers up 7-0. Concordia scored one run in the bottom of the fifth, and three more in the sixth to make it s 7-4 game, before the Pipers put four more runs on the board in the seventh. In the seventh, Hamline scored their four runs on five hits, including more doubles from Smith, Buresh, and Lincoln Hughes (So., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.). In the first game, Kaczrowski was 4-for-5 from the plate with two runs scored and an RBI, and Buresh was 2-for-4 with his two doubles and three RBI. Dominic Chenois (Jr., Hopkins, Minn.) picked up the win on the mound after throwing 6 2/3 innings, upping his record to 5-1. Roiger took over the pitching duties minutes later at the start of game two, going the distance while throwing 11 strikeouts, giving up eight hits and two earned runs. His record improved to 4-2 with the win. Supporting Roiger offensively, the Pipers opened the game with a run in the top of the first. Concordia evened the score in the third, but Hamline's offense came alive in the fifth inning for the second straight game, scoring three runs. Kaczrowski, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI in game two - making him 6-for-9 in the doubleheader, hit a lead-off homerun to get the inning started. Fuller then drew a walk right before Bennett hit a homerun of his own to put Hamline up 4-1. Concordia managed one run in the bottom of the inning, and Hamline added one more in the top of the sixth following lead-off double from Humerickhouse. The next batter, Tony Rogers (Fy., Elk River, Minn.), singled to bring him home for the final Piper run of the day. With the wins, Hamline climbs to 15-10, 4-2 MIAC. The Pipers host St. Olaf on Sunday, April 19, at 1:00 p.m. at Midway Stadium. |
