Roiger's homer gives baseball split
![]() With one out in the seventh, second baseman Dan Kaczrowski double and shortstop Andrew Bennett was intentionally walked. Two batters later, Roiger hit his second home run of the season to bring the Pipers (20-18, 8-10) back from a 3-1 deficit. After falling behind, Hamline scored single runs in the fifth and sixth to knot the game at 3-3. First-year Pat O'Laughlin hit an RBI single in the fifth while senior Sam Wiener added a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Junior Brian Martin (3-5) earned the complete game win. He gave up three runs on seven hits. He fanned six and walked one. Jason Bujold (0-2) took the loss for the Cardinals (8-21, 4-14). Left fielder Aaron Thompson and Roiger each added two hits to the Pipers' eight total for the game. In game one, Cardinal Nick Winecke plated the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning as St. Mary's won 4-3. St. Mary's jumped out to a 2-0 lead off starter Kyle Foster (6-5), but the Pipers responded with two runs in the second and another in the third to take the lead. First baseman Bill Sand and right fielder Matt Held each had RBIs in the second. The Pipers took the lead when Wiener scored on a wild pitch in the third. Foster gave up three runs on four hits through six innings. He struck out 10 and walked two. David Baker (2-2) allowed three runs - one earned - on five hits in the win. The Pipers will complete their season next Saturday when they host Concordia. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m. |
