Baseball drops doubleheader to St. John's
After the Pipers (13-12, 4-4 in the MIAC) tied the game with a James Bachmeier sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to force extras, St. John's (11-8, 4-0) answered in the 10th with Heinbigner's one-out sacrifice fly. Johnnie reliever Case Paxton (2-0) went two scoreless innings to earn his second win of the season. Senior Kyle Foster (5-3) took the loss for Hamline, allowing one run in two innings of work. Hamline starter Josh Roiger went eight innings, giving up one unearned run on seven hits. He struck out six and walked none, but did not figure in the decision. Johnnie starter T.J. Nelson allowed one run on two hits in six innings of work. Dan Kaczrowski and Andrew Bennett each added two hits for the Pipers. Jay Kasner had two hits for the Johnnies. In game two, St. John's jumped on Hamline Adam Letson (1-2) for four runs in two-plus innings before going on to the 5-3 win. Letson allowed four runs on eight hits, including a solo home run by Kasner to lead off the third inning. The Pipers cut the lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the third when Aaron Thompson scored on a wild pitch. Hamline added another run in the sixth on a Bill Sand RBI single, but left the bases loaded to end the threat. Sand hit his second run-scoring single in the seventh inning, but it wasn't enough. Adam Johnson (1-2) went five innings for the win. He allowed two runs on six hits in the contest. The Pipers will host Macalester Monday afternoon at Midway Stadium. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m. |
