Roiger pitches four-hitter as baseball splits

Junior Josh Roiger pitched a complete game four-hitter to lead Hamline to a 4-2 win over Luther Saturday afternoon at the Greater Phoenix Invitational. Luther earned a split with a 7-4 win in game one.

Roiger struck out four and walked none to earn the victory - his second of the season. Roiger gave up three of his four hits in the sixth inning, but the Pipers (6-4) had already built a 4-0 lead.

Shortstop Andrew Bennett hit a two-run single in the fifth innng while center field Sam Wiener added an RBI single in the sixth.

The Pipers had eight hits in the contest - two each by Bennett and Pat O'Laughlin.

In game one, the Norse pounded out 12 hits in beating the Pipers 7-4. Left fielder Alex Ross had three hits in the contest for Luther.

Hamline second baseman Dan Kaczrowski had two hits and two RBIs in the game.

Starter Kyle Foster took the loss, allowing six runs - five earned in 4 1/3 innings. He struck out five and walked none.

The Pipers will play Buena Vista Sunday afternoon at the Great Phoenix Invitational.
