Foster shuts out Gusties as baseball splits![]()
![]() Foster improved to 5-2 on the season, scattering three hits through seven innings. He struck out nine Gusties while walking just one. Foster retired the Gusties (8-6, 2-2 in the MIAC) in order in four innings and allowed just one runner to third base in the contest. The Pipers (11-10, 2-2) outhit Gustavus 7-3 in game one with seven different Pipers collecting base hits. Hamline scored all they would need in the first inning when catcher Pat O'Laughlin singled home Dan Kaczrowski. Junior James Bachmeier added an RBI double in the third and later scored on a well-executed double steal. Gustie Andrew Hoffer took the loss, pitching three innings. He allowed three runs - one earned. In game two, Hamline jumped out to a 3-0, but couldn't hold on in the 4-3 loss in 10 innings. Hamline scored two runs in the first on a run-scoring double by Andrew Bennett and RBI single by Bachmeier. They later added a single run in the third to make the score 3-0. But the Gusties plated two runs in their half of the third and a single run in the fifth to tie the game. Cather Shea Roehrkasse ended the game in the 10th with a two-out run scoring single off Hamline reliever Dom Chenois. Chenois went 4 2/3 innings, allowing just the one run. Starter Josh Roiger pitched five innings, but received a no decision. Charlie Cicalello went 5 1/3 innings for the win. Bennett was a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with a double and a solo home run in the third inning. He drove in two and scored twice. Bachmeier added three of Hamline's 13 base hits in the contest. The Pipers will play at Carleton on Tuesday. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.
