Bennett sets school home run mark as baseball sweeps![]()
![]() Bennett hit his 10th homer of the year third inning of game one to give the Pipers (22-18, 10-10) a 2-1 lead. The mark ties Tom Gothmann (1981) and Kyle Aug (1985) for the all-time single season home run lead. Bennett went 3-for-3 at the plate in the game with a double, homer, and two runs scored. Concordia (11-23, 7-13) tied the game in the top of the fourth on a Drew Zimmerman bases loaded walk before a 1 1/2-hour rain delay halted action. When the game resumed, Hamline scored immediately in the bottom of the fourth. After a one-out double by Aaron Thompson, second baseman Dan Kaczrowski hit a single up the middle. The relay throw made Thompson stop at third momentarily, but Cobber catcher Kyle Johnson's throw to second in an attempt to peg Kaczrowski sailed into center field to score Thompson with the go-ahead run. Senior pitcher Kyle Foster (7-5) earned the complete game win in his final career start. He allowed two earned runs on four hits. He struck out six and walked four. First baseman Bill Sand and catcher Pat O'Laughlin each had two hits for the Pipers. In game two, the Pipers converted on seven Cobber errors to win 5-0. Senior Derek Rundquist went 2-for-2 with two doubles and an RBI in the contest. Bennett and Kaczrowski each had sacrifice flies in the game for the Pipers. Starter Josh Roiger (5-2) went five innings for the win. He struck out three and walked one. Reliever Brian Martin threw two innings of scoreless ball. Cobber Eddie Massee (1-2) took the loss. He gave up four runs - two earned - on five hits over 4 1/3 innings. |
