Thompson, Bennett homers lead baseball to split
![]() Thompson led the game off with his first homer of the year. Two batters later, Bennett hit a two-run shot off Bethel starter Matt Pokorn to give the Pipers (15-14, 6-6) a 3-0 lead. The home run was Bennett's seventh of the season. Thompson finished the game 3-for-5 at the plate with a double, home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored. The Hamline first inning was all starter Josh Roiger (3-2) needed. The junior hurled a complete game five-hitter to earn the victory. He struck out six and walked none in the contest. After the Royals (14-12, 4-6) cut the lead to 3-1, the Pipers shut the door with four runs in the fifth. First-year Bill Sand came up with the big blow - a two run single off Pokorn. Hamline pounded out 12 hits in the game. James Bachmeier and Lincoln Hughes each added two hits to the attack. In game two, Bethel pitcher Travis Adams tossed a complete game five-hitter to give the Royals a 12-1 win. Brandon Carr and Kirby Carr each hit home runs for the Royals. Kirby Carr finished with three RBIs. Hamline starter Andrew Seymour went one-plus innings to take the loss. Bennett and Bachmeier hit back-to-back doubles in the first inning for the Pipers' lone run of the game. |
