BASICS OF MODERN ENGLISH FOR ESL TEACHERS
An Online Course
Professor:
Suellen Rundquist  (email: srundqu@attglobal.net)

Welcome to the starting point of our study of English grammar.  On this page you will find all the information needed to begin the course. Always come here first before reading lessons or accessing other course materials.

Our starting point (called the 'home page') contains the following items:

(If you are using the Conferencing Center  for the first time, click on instructions for more information  on how to participate in the class conference Grammar2000.)

1) Being Able to Move Around
As a reminder, let me go over a few basic conventions you will need to know when you use the course materials provided on the web. When I want you to go to another web page, you need to click (i.e. press the mouse button) where it says click here or on the specially marked text referring to that page. Anything that takes you to another place (either another page or a different part of a page) appears in blue and is underlined.

Similarly, sometimes I will ask you to "jump" to another part of the same lesson. Such requests mean that you need to clickon the specially marked word or phrase referring to that part of the lesson.   Now we are ready to look at other pieces of information you need to know to take this course.

2) The Syllabus
The next item I have on my agenda is the syllabus. I will give you an overview of the syllabus later in the Introduction section of the course. Here I just want to give you a point from where you can call up and look at the syllabus any time (click here to go to the syllabus).

3) The Lessons
This is a list of the lessons. From here you can go directly to any of the lessons throughout the course. Not all lessons will be in place from the start, though, as I will keep developing and adjusting while we go through the course. You can look at a more detailed class schedule with topics, dates, and readings in the syllabus.

4) Online Conferencing(The Center @ Hamline)
In this course we don't have regular classroom meetings and interactions as in a regular on-campus course. To give us all an option to interact with each other,  included  in the course is a component called "The Center @ Hamline" (for short, the Center). It is a place where we can "meet" to conduct group work, discuss topics, or ask questions. Instructions for the Center can be found by clicking here. Take a few minutes to read them. Please note that you need to register before you can use the Center the first time; the name of the conference for this class is Grammar2000.
