Peterson residents rally in support of Neve
Residents plan on holding an
on-campus sleepout tonight

Angry Peterson residents plan on holding a sleepout tonight in support of former RA Carrie Neve, who resigned from her position yesterday.

The sleepout will begin around 8:00 p.m., Peterson resident Kyle Foley said, and will continue until morning. She said that the planned location is Old Main lawn; however, in the case of rain, it will be moved to under the library columns.

Neve said she was asked to resign from her RA position after actions she took in response to recent incidents of alleged sexual assault in Peterson Hall.

The administration would not allow her to identify the suspect, she said, so she sent a letter to Peterson residents identifying him. She said she was told by administration that her actions violated the university's confidentiality policy, and for that she was asked to resign.

Tonight's sleepout will show Peterson residents' continued support for Neve, said first-year Chris Johnson, as well as question the university's confidentiality policy.

"Had the administration been more forthright with us," Johnson said, "Carrie never would have had to break policy."

"We're just as safe sleeping out on the lawn as we are in the dorms," he added.

Other Peterson residents expressed similar sentiments.

"If Carrie can't sleep in the dorms," said resident Ruth Kohtz, "then I don't want to, either."

"We don't feel safe in [Peterson] any more," said resident Elia Albarran. "Administration handled this situation poorly, and I still don't think they understand."
