Trip the light fantastic

Entertainment Editor

Hamline’s Dance Ensemble concludes this semester with their show, Arrested Motion, under the direction of Kaori Kenmotsu.

This three-day feature marks the premier of multiple pieces. Headlining the acts is Kenmotsu’s own “Radio Play.” Her new work explores American music through the lens of popular dance forms including swing, jazz, tap and hip hop.

Besides Kenmotsu’s piece, Eric Boone will be unveiling his own project, “To Give and to Grasp,” which focuses on the interwining of three women’s lives.

Megan Flood is also showing “Raven,” featuring local guitarist Dean Magraw. Flood will also guide an improvisational piece.

Along with these premieres, there are also several pieces choreographed by Ensemble members.

The Hamline Dance Ensemble is a pre-professional contemporary dance company under the artistic direction of Kaori Kenmotsu. Its mission is to give performance opportunities to Hamline students in the discipline of dance as well as develop the creative voice of students and forge connections with the larger Twin Cities dance community.

Arrested Motion debuts on May 10 at the Anne Simley Theatre at 7:30 p.m. and will be performed again on May 11 and May 12. Tickets are $1 for ACTC students, $7 for adults (seniors $5), and $4.50 per ticket for groups of 10+. Contact the Hamline University Theatre Box Office at 651-523-2905 or tickets@hamline.edu for more information.
