Found in the Crowd
Melissa Hruza/Oracle: How’s [your year] going?
Howard “HC” Cunningham: It’s going well.
O: Major?
HC: Business management, minor in communications.
O: Any big plans for that?
HC: Not right now, just looking for a job.
O: Do you have any jobs on campus?
HC: Yeah, I work at Safety and Security as a dispatcher. I like my job.
O: What do you do?
HC: Just relay information back and forth from the officers and answering phone calls and stuff. If there’s an emergency on campus we just call 911 if the officers tell us to, or the fire department if there’s a fire alarm going off.
O: Are you involved in any activities on campus?
HC: Pride BSA [Black Student Alliance], I work as Public Relations for that.
O: Now, you’re a senior and you’re going to be an alum soon. Are you planning on keeping close ties to Hamline?
HC: Um, just kinda let whatever happens, happen. I might end up staying around the Twin Cities for awhile; keep my options open.
O: What’s your hometown?
HC: Minneapolis.
O: Are there any places in Minneapolis you think Hamline students should know about?
HC: Um, I know everybody knows about downtown and places uptown, too there’s clubs like Escape and Karma.
O: Do you go clubbing a lot?
HC: I try to go every once and awhile, with my boys.
O: What do you like about clubbing?
HC: I like the music, the social atmosphere, getting away from campus. I have to keep moving.
O: Do you have any favorite artists?
HC: The best rapper of all time, Jay-Z.
O: Do you have any hobbies?
HC: I like to play sports, I was on the football team. I like to make music. I like to record music, listen to music.
O: What kind of music?
HC: Hip-hop and rap, I’m going to try to come out with something soon with my friend Jesse. We’re called The Tandum.
O: Where do you record?
HC: Everywhere, our friend’s house, the library, my brother’s house.
O: Do you want to do that professionally?
HC: If I could, that would be great, but for now it’s just a hobby.
O: So, what part of your music do you focus on? Is it the beat, the words?
HC: I try to concentrate more on the words. There’s a lot out there already that concentrates on the beats. I try to be the best I can be.
O: Okay, I’m going to ask a hypothetical question. If you could be a super hero, which one would you be and why?
HC: Super hero? Let’s think about this, I’d be yeah, Superman because he can do it all I guess. He can fly.
