Let's Get Happy
1- The Liffey ranks as an Irish pub kitty-corner from the Xcel Energy Center in downtown St. Paul. With an outdoor patio, two sit down drinking areas and a bar, this place harbors a high-energy environment for all to enjoy. A younger crowd can be found at the Liffey, and it’s no wonder why. 2- Gabe’s by the Park was ranked “Best of Citysearch” for its great drink specials, seasonal patio, sports bar, game rooms, large wooden booths, and trendy music. Another college favorite, this bar’s happy hour is one you will not want to miss.

3- Sweeney’s Saloon is a favorite namely for its spacious outdoor patio with heated lamps, a stone fire place and Christmas lights. Sweeney’s serves appetizers, soups/salads, pastas, sandwiches, burgers and desserts. Comedy night is the first Wednesday of each month. Featuring happy hour every day!

4- Tiffany’s Sports Lounge attracts a regular yet diverse crowd, situated in a residential and college neighborhood. Tiffany’s is popular for its TV arrangement designed for the viewing pleasure of its guests. Live music can be heard occasionally and traditional bar food can be ordered until 11 p.m. This bar even hosts a thirsty Thursday all-you-can-drink special for $8!

5- Halftime Rec gained its fame in the film Grumpier Old Men but offers a lot more than its stardom. Home to bocce ball in the basement and live rock and Irish music upstairs, this Minnesotan Irish bar is a fun secret close to Hamline. Recently renovated in winter of 2006, Halftime caters to a range of both college students and local residents.
Anyone with a college ID (21+ of course): $6 beer pitchers.

6- The Tavern on Grand will make you feel hours north with its “up at the lake” appeal including fish tanks, log cabin walls and walleye sandwiches. The bar is known for its walleye sandwiches, cheap beer and strong cocktails. This fishing hole is popular with locals and serves a crowd typically early 20s-early 40s. Music played can be anything from classic rock to hip-hop.
