Forum connects Latino community and police

Associate Copy Editor

The Minneapolis police force will meet with interested members of the Minneapolis Latino community on April 11. The event is part of Proyecto Puentes (Bridges Project), a community building forum that seeks to build positive and trusting relationships between law and city officials and members of the Latino community who live and work in Minneapolis according to Centro Legal, Inc., one of the event’s sponsors. Other sponsors are Minneapolis Chief of Police Tim Dolan, Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak and Mexican Consul Nathan Wolf, who will be present at the event.

In addition to an open forum to open up dialogue between the two entities and a Q & A session, the MPD will be distributing recruitment information to increase the Latino presence on the police force, and offering sign-ups for the ride-along program.

The event will take place at the Midtown Global Market at 6:30 p.m. Market vendors will be preparing extra food to compensate for the demand. The forum is free and open to the public.
