Fireball costs more than it should
Pretty dresses cost a lot. So do shoes, hotel rooms, rented Hummers and limos, and fancy food and drinks.
If you’re experiencing a tingling nostalgia for the unique thrill of prom, Fireball is going to cost you a lot. And $10 per person on top of that.
No doubt, many high schools charge their students a small fee to attend dances in order to help cover the various costs that go into creating these elaborate events.
But college costs and financial independence force the possibility of spare change into extinction. The $20 per couple that is being paid could be more than a few boxes of Ramen, half a short textbook, or an upgrade in Nike’s. Either way, it’s an added expense.
The portion that each student pays in tuition and fees for organizations like HEAT and HUSC is not largely significant, but altogether it makes what an inexperienced event organizer like myself would generalize as a sizable budget.
Besides, jugglers, DDR, and other entertainment was provided for students at the EOYP at no cost.
Why would $5, or even $7, not be enough for students to pay for the hotel space, DJ, and flashing “Hamline” light on the wall, especially if we don’t share the costs for other entertainment throughout the year?
In the end, $20 is not going to make or break many students. But it’d be better if we had that extra $5 or $10 for cuter shoes, or food next week.
