Unofficial official Piper mascot naming: cont.
All right Piper lads and lasses-last week The Oracle introduced our official unofficial “Name the Piper” contest. As you’ll remember, all you have to do to enter your idea for the new Piper name is shoot us an e-mail of 75 words or less with your suggestion and “Piper Mascot” somewhere in the subject line.
Think fans should be cheering for “Plutarch the Piper” as he runs up and down the field? Make your case! Wanna cheer for “Nebuchadnezzar?” All entries will be accepted. We’ll also be printing the ideas as we receive them, so you can give us your feedback too.
Remember, the winner gets the honor of having named the Piper, and a free T-shirt.
I propose the name Wesley for our venerated, rat killing, child taker-awayer, mascot.
Alright, why Wesley?
The fact is Hamline is a Methodist affiliated school; its greatest contributor and namesake, Leonidas Hamline, was a Methodist Bishop.
John Wesley is the parent of Methodism and so naming our mascot after him would do great honor to his name and also to our school’s history.
Plus the name Wesley just rolls off the tongue and naming the Piper anything more menacing would just be ridiculous.

There is only one choice for the mascots name:“Leo” as in Bishop Leonidas Hamline.
