Mahmoud El-Kati, a professor of History at Macalester College, delivered Black History Month’s keynote address on the importance of black history, as well as some fundamental problems in America’s history and power systems that have kept black history from the mainstream.

Since the start of the digital music age, savvy downloaders have dexterously dodged a myriad of obstacles in their paths toward free (and illegal) tunes. The first squall most would-be pirates had to navigate was that of the person to person downloading client. Finding a program that can easily connect to others’ illegal digital music hoards is tough enough, but finding one that won’t also crash your computer with viruses is even more difficult.

With this overwhelming urge for summer to come, what better way to tide one’s self over than with America’s archetypal summer pasttime, baseball? The Minnesota Historical Society is host to the Baseball As America exhibit, a display that boasts over 500 items from the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.

It was the summer of 1940, and Britain was losing the war with Germany. In a desperate attempt to develop the technologies they felt were vital to England’s success, inventor Henry Tizard boarded an ocean liner headed toward the United States. It was his hope that England and the U.S. could work together. Along with Tizard and his six associates was a small black briefcase. Inside this briefcase was, among many other classified materials, a prototype of new radar hardware. It was called the cavity magnetron. This little hunk of metal would turn the tide of the war. Britain went very quickly from an overwhelmed and overpowered victim, to an avant-garde and worthy force.
