Stenslie is named WIAC's top gymnast
On Feb. 6, Hamline sophomore gymnast Brynn Stenslie was named WIAC gymnast of the week. In addition to her solid season, the honor comes in the wake of Stenslie’s dominant and impressive week of competition.
On Feb. 2, Stenslie led the Pipers to victory over Gustavus Adolphus College in a dual meet. Stenslie’s score of 9.075 or better in three events, led Hamline to a 176.050 to 173.575 victory at the meet. Stenslie, last year’s Co-WIAC beam champion took first in the balance beam (9.250) and second in the floor exercise (9.250). She missed first place in the floor exercise by 0.025 of a point. Stenslie also finished the meet with a fifth-place standing in the vault with a score of 9.075.
“I was not really expecting to be named,” Stenslie said of being named WIAC gymnast of the week. Stenslie said she and her fellow Piper gymnasts agree that “this season has been really great.”
On Feb. 5, Stenslie and the Piper gymnasts had another strong outing at the UW-Stout Triangular in Wisconsin. Hamline had a cumulative score of 174.625 in defeating UW-Stout (174.500) and Winona State (170.150).
The Pipers have finished first in their last two meets and have had strong placements in most meets. With only three meets remaining before the WIAC Championships, the Pipers will need to continue to be competitive.
“My main goal now is consistency. Getting the same performance out at every event,” Stenslie said.
The Piper gymnasts next compete at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on Feb. 16 at 7:00 p.m.
