HUSC gets planning update
Prof. Ed Butterfoss and Associate Vice President for University Planning and Graduate Schools Enrollment Management John Pyle presented information about the current state of Strategic Planning to the HUSC general assembly last week. The update consisted of information regarding plans of both projects and implementation.
Since October, the Framework committee for Strategic Planning has received input from over 150 people. At the end of this month, the Board of Trustees will look over the ideas the Frameworks have prepared. The Board of Trustees will then examine the plan. Afterwards, the Frameworks will take the advice of the Board of Trustees into consideration and use it to form a definite plan.
The Frameworks are trying to develop new strategies on how to best use technology in the classroom, redesign the community around the Hamline area, fulfill the Hamline promise, and ultimately define what “Hamline” is. They are also working to find a way to balance the different schools that make up the university. Much of what the Board of Trustees will be doing is checking to see if the plan proposed by the Framework committee aligns with Hamline’s mission.
As to the congress’s normal proceedings, no new business was raised.
Piperpass being distributed
The Piperpass is a discount card that allows Hamline University College of Liberal Arts students exclusive discounts at businesses in the Hamline-Midway and greater St. Paul area. This is the inaugural year for the Piperpass.
The pass is available free of charge to CLA students and is valid from Feb. 1 to Aug. 1, 2007. Cards will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis by members of the Student Alumni Board the week of Feb. 12 - 16 in the Student Center Lobby from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and in Sorin Dining Hall from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
If there are still Piperpass cards remaining after Feb. 16, the Student Alumni Board will distribute cards on the same schedule the week of Feb. 13-23. Students must be prepared to show their student IDs when they use the Piperpass. Businesses are given the option of requesting to see a Hamline student ID card when the Piperpass is used. Discount offerings are printed on the back of the card.
