Swimming and Diving sink at hands of Concordia

Sports Editor

The Piper women’s swimming and diving team competed and lost to Concordia 138-99 in Moorhead, last week. As individuals though, the Pipers swam very well. Four Hamline swimmers won four individual races. The Pipers are a young team this year and got very impressive performances out of their first-years.

First-year Renee Punyko had an amazing day. Punyko finished first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:23.39) as well as the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.66). First-year Jessica Damiani won the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:53.92. First-year Becky Moenkhaus won the 100-yard freestyle and junior Dana Ketcher, the veteran of the group, won the 50-yard freestyle.

The Piper men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will compete on Dec. 2 at the St. Mary’s Invitational.
