Hamline soccer's Helling named MIAC's Most Valuable Player, Dupic earns All-MIAC honors
The Hamline men’s soccer season is over but the accolades have been rolling in. Last week, the MIAC announced that senior Piper forward Jacob Helling earned the prestigious honor of being named the MIAC Men’s Soccer Most Valuable Player. Helling had a remarkably strong season for the Pipers. The senior led the entire conference in scoring this season with 14 goals and four assists in both conference and non-conference games. Compiled, his stats amounted to 32 points. In MIAC play alone, Helling had eight goals and one assist for 17 points. His stats in conference play tied him for MIAC lead.
In addition, Helling and fellow senior midfielder Steven Dupic were named to the All-MIAC first team. Dupic played the role of hero in the MIAC semifinals. The midfielder scored his lone goal of the season in Hamline’s victory over St. John’s in the semifinals. On the season, Dupic amassed six points on one goal and four assists.
Piper junior goalkeeper Andrew Clement received All-MIAC honorable mention from the conference. Clement had a solid season, shutting opponents out seven times. The goalkeeper finished the season with a .860 save percentage and averaged less than a goal passed per game. He was 8-4-2 for the season.
This was the second consecutive MIAC Playoff appearance for Hamline. Despite losing in the conference championship game, the Pipers finished the season with a record of 12-5-2 overall and 5-3-2 in the MIAC.
