Fight Leukemia--don't shave
When thinking about fighting leukemia, most people do not envision beards and hairy legs, but Aleksey Ozerkov and 63 other students are fighting to change that with No-Shave November.
No-Shave November encourages male and female participants to abstain from shaving until Dec. 1. Additionally, they raise money for the Leukemia Foundation.
Ozerkov said the idea came from students Josh Hackett and James Larson when they wanted to grow mustaches. “It just evolved from there,” he said.
Ozerkov will take any form of donations people are willing to hand him. He said he has already collected change from various people. “I’ll be walking around with a jar,” he said.
At the finale on Dec. 1, CLA students and faculty will vote for a winner. The finalists will all have their own jar and voters can toss money in the jar of their favorite hairy student. All of the finalists will get a gift card but the winner will receive a $50 gift card to Target.
Ozerkov chose the Foundation for No-Shave November because its website shows directly where the money goes. He said he wanted to choose a foundation where the money would go right to the people who need it.
According to Foundation website, it is dedicated to the care and cure of patients and families living with leukemia. The Leukemia Foundation is online at www.leukaemia.com.
