Hmong month kicks off with activities galore
November is Hmong Month at Hamline. Hmong Student Association (HSA) sponsoring events throughout the month. In the Klas Center Ballroom on Nov. 7 is "Wheel of Hmong." This game is based on the popular game show Wheel of Fortune with a twistčall the puzzles will be in Hmong. “Wheel of Hmong is open to all the ACTC schools and is dependent on audience participation. On Nov. 9, HSA is holding a Craft and Culture night in the Student Center Lobby. Starting at 7 p.m., this evening will let students learn about the history of the Hmong people. Among other things, attendees will be able to learn how to sew and view traditional Hmong clothing and be entered into a raffle.
The final event of the month will be the Hmong New Year dance on Nov. 18 in the HUB. The dance will run from 8 p.m. to midnight and is free to any ACTC student. Many HSA members will also take part in the Minnesota celebration of the Hmong New Year from Nov. 24-26 in downtown St. Paul. The three-day celebration consists of dancing, music, the Miss Hmong Minnesota Pageant and lots of traditional food.
