Mail delivered with electric efficiency
University mail services went electric this summer with the addition of a new electric parcel delivery truck. Leaving behind the golf carts used by many campus departments, mail services chose to use a more efficient vehicle. The new truck, which arrived in July, is more efficient and also street legal, mail services employee Sandra Luchsinger said.
The truck, which is made by Cushman, was custom fitted with a hard chrome top, locking windows, and maroon paint with the Hamline logo. At top speed, it reaches 35 mph. Once the day is done, it is pulled into the mail services garage to recharge overnight.
The mail service looked into getting a new delivery vehicle because of the many on- and off-campus Hamline programs that they serve. Serving off-campus locations while at the same time serving the greater Hamline campus requires them to have a vehicle that is street legal and also capable of effectively navigating around on the main campus.
