Piper football looks to retain "Old Paint Bucket" versus Macalaster

On September 30, Piper football will take on Macalaster College at Klas Field. The Pipers and the Scots will be competing to see who takes home the Old Paint Bucket Trophy in this annual match up. Last year, the Pipers took home the Paint Bucket after beating the Scots in a lopsided 54-0 victory. Last year’s game was the first in which, junior Andrew Seymour made the transition from quarterback to wide receiver. He lead the Pipers in receiving stats for that game and has continued to lead Hamline in receiving in 4 of his first five games. Thus far in the season, Seymour has one touchdown and seven catches for 144 yards. Kick off for this non-MIAC game is 1 p.m. at the Klas.

Volleyball beats St. Olaf in four games, Hyllengren with 23 kills

Last week, Piper volleyball defeated St. Olaf (5-6, 1-1) in four games. Hamline split the first two games but took complete control of the third. In the third game, the Pipers compiled 15 kills. For the match, the volleyball Pipers had 77 digs compared to 63 by the Oles and overall, the Pipers had 54 assists. Hamline got solid contributions from much of the team. Sophomore Amanda Booth had 9 kills, sophomore Emily Amici had 8 kills, senior Dana Lukien had 14 kills, and junior Shelby Hyllengren led all Pipers with 23 kills. As of September 21, the Pipers are 1-1 in the MIAC and 7-4 overall. The Pipers are in fifth place in the MIAC standings. On September 27, the Pipers are at home at Hutton Arena against St. Benedict.

Women’s soccer ties with Coe

Women’s Soccer continued working on a very solid season last week when they earned a tie against Coe College. The game ended in a 1-1 tie. Junior Anna McMahon got to the Cohawks early on in the first half, scoring her first goal of the season. Coe came back in the second, scoring a goal off an assist. On September 27, the Pipers resume MIAC play when they take on Concordia College at Concordia.

Cross Country finishes strong at St. Olaf Invitational

Both cross country teams were in Northfield last week to start off the season and take part in the St. Olaf Invitational. The Men’s team started off the season promising by taking third at the meet. UW-LaCrosse took first on the men’s side ad Minesota State took second. Five Pipers finished in the top 22 including senior Travis Bristow, who finished ninth. Fellow senior Chris Yotter came in right after Bristow, finishing tenth.
Women’s cross country finished 11th. Of the MIAC schools, Carleton came in first and Macalaster finished second. Senior Melissa Francis led all Pipers, as she finished 28th in the meet. On October 7, both cross country teams travel to Wartburg College to part take in the Dan Huston Invitational.
