Halos and pitchforks, Hamline style
NAY to HUSC’s lack of debate over new executive board nominations. Key positions like vice president and Political Affairs Committee chair were fast-tracked through the process of approval with few questions and little debate.
NAY to the new ACTC bus schedule. The new route takes 45 minutes to go from Hamline to Macalester. We could saddle a cross country runner and ride there in less time.
YEA to the updates at Sorin. The dining center used to look like an unused set from The Breakfast Club. The new look is modern, colorful, and is actually for large groups of people to get and eat food. We love the new circular food station and praise its ability to cut down lines and wait time. Even better are the new computer lab and information desk. It’s about time the university decided to jump on the 21st century technology bandwagon. Let’s get our download on!
NAY to having to get our card-keys recoded to use the new Sorin computer lab. We realize that our IDs aren’t coded properly to open the door, but we’re sometimes lazy, and we think they should have taken that into account when devising the entry system. The hassle of getting new cards is almost enough to keep us from using the lab. Almost.
YEA to the first-years’ support for the free press and the Oracle at Hamline. We have had a huge response to our fall hiring campaign, and we just want you to know how much we appreciate that. The job of the press is an important one, even on a small campus like Hamline. We’re glad you see and realize that, first-years.
YEA to not signing in at Walker Field House. To be honest, the old sign-in book was a bit of a nuisance. Sure, signing in was a nice way to put-off our workouts, but we like being able to flash our student IDs and high-tail it up to the weight room.
NAY to the current standard of accessibility on campus. We appreciate the changes made to Bush Library, but an overhaul on just one building isn’t going to fix the fact that it’s still tough to get around at Hamline. We have only one truly accessible dorm, and equipment that is supposed to enhance accessibility is often inaccessible or broken. But a big YEA to Access Now for keeping up the fight.
YEA to $2.25 gas. Although we’re not crazy about the idea, low gas prices may encourage us to drive to Macalester instead of sitting on a bus for 45 minutes. Carpool anyone? Maybe we’ll stick to biking.
NAY to the inevitable spike of those same gas prices back up past three dollars after the November elections.
