Many factors decide top paid positions
Several factors go into deciding how salaries are determined at Hamline and where the money comes from. Last week the Oracle reported the top five paid positions at Hamline, as was reported on the university’s IRS-990 form. These positions consisted of the three vice presidentsčof academic affairs, finance and university relations, the chief of staff and the president.
“The marketplace is what the marketplace is,” Anderson said regarding salary levels. Both Hanson and Anderson said Hamline administrative salaries are comparable to those of other universities in the same category.

40,000 march on capitol for immigrants' rights
“Si Se Puede!”--Spanish for “Yes we can”--This was the phrase of choice for thousands of people from Minnesota’s immigrant communities on the afternoon of Sunday, April 9. Over 40,000 Minnesotans marched to the capitol to participate in the largest pro-immigrant mobilization the state has ever seen. It was among several demonstrations that drew thousands of protesters in New Mexico, Michigan, Iowa, Alabama, Utah, Oregon, Idaho and California.
“This fight for immigration,” said event volunteer Joe Kapsner, 20, “it’s not only a fight for [immigrants], but for all of the working class.” People of every race and ethnicity gathered en masse at the St. Paul Cathedral before marching to the capitol. The Hispanic community comprised the majority of the crowd. They came prepared, waving flags representing their home country, American flags, and signs reading things such as “I’m a worker not a terrorist” and “I’m a student.”

Student athletes asked to censor Facebook photo albums
For most, Facebook is nothing more than a way to stay in contact with friends or a means of wasting time. Recently, though, Facebook became the center of a discussion concerning propriety among Hamline student athletes. Rumors of athletic department censorship of student homepages began to surface two weeks ago and were confirmed by student athletes.

Under the covers
with Liz Engle
Dear Under the Covers,
Is it common etiquette to tell someone else they have oral herpes? I am constantly worried that if I’m making out with someone, they won’t tell me they have oral herpes. How easily contractable is it? Can herpes spread orally? How do you know if someone else has it? How common is it?
