Under the covers

with April Schmitz

Dear Under the Covers,
Every week you put as a disclaimer, “April Schmitz has aspirations about being a sex expert, but has no formal training.” So, here’s my question: Why should we believe anything you write, and how do you obtain your information?
Are You Qualified?

Dear AYQ,
You are correct. I do not have any formal training in this topic. I have always just offered my advice to those who ask.

My interest in writing this column was brought about when a friend of mine asked me a sex question. I answered her question as best I could, with only my prior knowledge. For fear that I may have offered her wrong advice, I began to do research.

The good news was, I did not tell her any wrong information. However, there were so many other things that I could have informed her on.

There is a lot of information out there. It is just a matter of gathering and reporting.

I have also found that there is a lot of controversy within this topic. A person may not agree with everything that is printed in this column, but it is my job to offer possibilities.

Do you have to agree with everything that is printed in this section? No. That is why we give our readers the option responding and letting us know what they think.

Just remember, it is up to you whether you agree with what is printed or not. We try to do our best to keep everyone informed about a wide variety of topics, including sex.

Dear Under the Covers,
I love the taste of cum. I was just wondering, though, if it’s bad for my health to swallow. Spitting it out just doesn’t seem to be a good option. Should I be concerned with how much I consume
Yummy

Dear Yummy,

Cum is an all-natural bodily fluid. It’s a great way to get to get protein, minerals, natural sugars, and other nutrients. Sperm itself will be neutralized by the gastric fluids before it even hits the stomach.

A word of caution, though. If your partner has an STD, it won’t matter if you swallow or not. You will already have been exposed to whatever they’re carrying. If anything, swallowing may be the quickest way to get rid of the semen, and your stomach and intestines are not vulnerable to infection by STDs.

Performing oral sex without a condom, whether or not cum is involved, runs the risk of transmitting several STDs if your partner is infected. However, swallowing does not significantly increase your chances of contracting anything.

Disclaimer: April Schmitz has aspirations of being a sexpert but has no professional training. To submit a question e-mail it to oracle@hamline.edu. You can remain anonymous.
