HUSC surplus is now available
At last week’s HUSC meeting, members voted overwhelmingly to distribute an unexpected $10,642.34 into various funds. In 1990, HUSC members decided to put some extra money into a mutual account, and over the next few years, this fund was used for additional money and money was put into the account as an extra reserve fund of sorts. In the last few years, however, the money went untouched and was forgotten until it was brought to Treasurer Pete Winiecki’s attention over this past summer. The week of Feb. 21, HUSC President Shanelle Evens first brought forth a resolution to distribute 20 percent of the funds to the Capital Improvement Fund, 40 percent to the Conference Fund, and 40 percent to the Contingency Fund, arguing that these are the funds most accessible to the greatest number of students and the money will therefore benefit the most students from these locations. For the rest of the year there should be plenty of funding available for students seeking money for the sponsoring of events, capital improvements, or conferences.
New sexual misconduct policy implemented
A new policy has been released regarding sexual harassment and violence. This code has been in the making for the past 18 months. The new set of rules combines the previous policies on sexual violence and sexual harassment, which were originally two different policies. Also, information about student violence has been added to clarify previously shady points. The new policy outlines definitions pertaining to sexual harassment, as well as advice if a person feels they have been harassed or assaulted. Many resources are listed for victims to contact. Students can access the new policy at www.hamline.edu/policies.
