Tieken named Senior Womens Administrator

Staff Writer

Early last week, the athletic department named Janelle Tieken the senior womens administrator at Hamline University. Tieken has been the head-coach for Hamline’s fast pitch softball team for the last eight years in addition to managing the field house.

The Athletic Administration was left with an opening earlier this year after head-athletic trainer Angela Perusack left to pursue career opportunities in Ohio.

“I’m honored to be selected to be in a role such as this where I can have a positive impact on our female athletes and the general student body,” Tieken said.

Tieken will have the responsibility of representing the university at conference and national levels, in addition to promoting womens athletics at Hamline, and providing a “female voice” within the administration. She will work closely with Athletic Director Dan O’Brien and the Athletic Administration as an “advocate” for student athletes.

Tiekn said she will serve as another perspective as the athletic administration makes decisions concerning Hamline’s student athletes. Beyond that, her role in the administration is still being defined.

“Dan O’Brien and I have been in negotiations to hammer out the role and responsibilities of the position,” said Tieken.

Tieken expects to have considerable responsibilities in coordinating athletic events and coordinating events for athletes. Tieken will take on this new role as well as being retained as head-coach for fast-pitch softball. She has overseen a very successful fast pitch team in her eight years at Hamline. Tieken was MIAC coach of the year in 2002 and has a career record of 132-121-1 overall and a record of 80-73-1 in conference games. It is safe to say that Tieken has been one of the hardest working individuals on campus since the moment she started at Hamline. She is one of the many people on campus who works behind the scenes to make Hamline the quality university that it is.

Despite her modesty, Janelle Tieken is the perfect fit for this position and Hamline athletes are very fortunate to have her looking out for their best interests.
