Piper gymnasts own at home

Leaping into first place yet again, the Hamline Gymnastics team avoided stumbling with their expert tumbling. The team was able to secure first place in the meet against UW-Stout on Friday, Feb. 3, at the Walker Field house by a whopping 173.35 - 164.925. The victory pushed Hamline’s win streak to three.

The Pipers raised the bar at the meet, winning all four events as a team and three of four individual events. The only area that the Pipers did not grasp the top spot in individual events was, ironically, the uneven bars.

First-year Brynn Stenslie dominated the beam for the Pipers with a score of 9.275. She also scored a 9.15 in the floor exercise. Other Pipers scoring above a 9.0 were junior Caitlin Goodin with a 9.25 in the beam, first-year Kayla Sirmans with a 9.2 in the floor exercise and a 9.125 in the vault, and first-year Alex Hughes with a 9.175 in the vault and 9.05 in the floor exercise.

Friday night’s meet against Gustavus and UW-Eau Claire is bound to be a nail-biter and first will be up for grabs as Hamline is ranked 12th in the North Central Region, Gustavus 13th, and UW-Eau Claire 10th. Hamline flipped over UW-Eau Claire during Eau Claire’s Invitational on January 14; however, the final score was a close 174.45-173.05 and while Hamline lost to UW-Oshkosh for their first meet of the season, Oshkosh went down to Gustavus. The meet will start at 7:00 at the Walker Fieldhouse.
