Tree lighting ceremony kicks off holiday season
The weather outside at 5 p.m. last Tuesday was exceptionally cold, but that didn’t stop a fairly large group of people from bundling up and standing outside of Sundin Music Hall to see a majestic evergreen tree lit up by our very own President Hanson. The brief ceremony included a warm welcome from junior Matt Sveum and a brief statement from university president Linda Hanson. An invitation for any little kid or “big kid” to help her pull the giant candy cane and turn on the lights was taken advantage of by kids both big and small. This joint effort by Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, the United Methodist Student Movement, and the Lutheran Student Movement was the first event of what hopes to become an annual Christmas tree lighting tradition. A carol was sung outside before the ceremony moved inside the lobby for a sing-along with Skyline Citizen, including hot cocoa and cookies. This ceremony was well-received and helped kick off the holiday season on campus.
