Letter to the Editor: Of all the things to complain about
Dear Eric,
Dare I say, you are one ignorant young man. I would like to begin by pointing out that if you had desired to create a discussion about the things that make a person false, you should have discussed the likes of cosmetic surgery. We can wash our make up off each night, but we cannot take out the breast implants and collagen. Male owners of big business create an “ideal” image of beauty which women are faced with daily. When I look in the mirror, make up or no, I do not see that ideal image . Why? Because that image is not real, it is created. Is this why most women wear make up? No. In fact, hearing the complaints of your column this week has shown me that women wear make up primarily because it enhances their natural beauty, is fun, and for themselves. . Keep in mind, this image which tells women what to do, say, wear, look like, is the one that creates violence against women. And realize that you too, are telling women what to do, wear, say, look like with your column. You will never be vulnerable in this society in the way that women are, regardless of what you think. Until this society is equal, I don’t believe you should be speaking of what women should or should not do with their own faces.
And to avoid being called a hypocrite, get rid of the beard. You too are masking your own face.
