Found in the Crowd: Ebony Baggett, Sophomore
Field(s) of study: Philosophy Major, Psychology minor and pre-med classes
Lauren Vikander/Oracle: Wow, quite the course load! Why did you chose those fields?
Ebony: Because I want to be a pediatrician and I can’t major in Pre-med, so I had to pick a major and I liked philosophy.
O: So what sparked you wanting to be a pediatrician?
E: Well, at first I just wanted to be a regular doctor and help people and be involved. But I really like kids, so I narrowed it down to a pediatrician.
O: So why did you chose to go to Hamline?
E: Well it was between here and the U, and I just liked the size of Hamline. Now that I’m here its cool, I like
the people and the experience I’ve had thus far, so I guess it was a good choice.
O: What do you think you’d be doing right now if you weren’t at Hamline?
E: Nothing probably, just working some menial job.
O: Are you working right now?
E: Just at the student center front desk.
O: What is something that you’re really striving for, or work towards on a day to day basis?
E: Just doing well in my classes, lots of studying.
O: What is one thing you would want to do to make the world a better place if you could do anything?
E: Get Bush out of office!
O: How productive would you say you are compared to other people?
E: Well, I’m a procrastinator but I am very productive, I’m in HUSC and Pride and work at the Student Center Front Desk and it’s a lot of work with the classes I take. So I’m really busy, so I have to work on my procrastination.
O: So how are you involved with Pride? What is your position or involvement?
E: I’ve bee a member since last year and I try to help out as much as I can. There are many events that I
help out with and attend to show my support and get the word out.
O: how would you describe a typical Friday night?
E: hmm, Friday night. Well probably, at home either watching TV or doing homework, probably not really
doing homework. Just chilling.
O: How would you describe yourself?
E: I’m nice, but sometimes people when they first meet me, they think I’m mean or closed off, but it takes awhile to get to know me because I’m cautious about the people I get to know. But just your average college student, you know.
O: How do you think your friends would describe you?
E: Strange.
O: Why strange?
E: Umm, I have a different religion than expected, or most people are used to or know.
O: And what’s that?
E: Wiccan.
O: Oh, that’s cool, how did you get involved with that?
E: I started looking into different religions when I was twelve, and Wiccan seemed to best fit my personality.
O: Were you raised with religion in your home when you were younger?
E: Yeah, a bunch of different kinds of religions, so basically I’ve been exploring religion for a long time.
O: Do you practice or attend organized services or functions for it?
E: I’ve never found any services or anything like that but its something you can practice on your own, which is the cool thing about it.
O: What is a common compliment that people give you?
E: People say that when I do speak, I speak very well and articulately, so when I do talk its worth hearing.
O: Do you have any guilty pleasures as far as television shows go?
E: Umm, I big fan of Roswell, all my friends will tell you that. Actually, I have a group on facebook that’s dedicated to the show. I also like Lost, Ani-me, and Sci-Fi shows.
O: Why that genre?
E: I like shows that make you think and that are different from the average teenage pop culture shows. I like to be left wondering at the end of a show.
