Editorial: Students ignore inauguration
The university officially inaugurated Linda Hanson as president last Friday. Various committees ensured that all the pomp and circumstance was rolled out for the celebration, which geniusly coincided with homecoming. Classes were canceled as professors marched, donned in the full garb academia has bestowed on them.
And students ignored it.
A simulcast was available in DS 118, should the arena need overflow viewing. It was unnecessary because of the poor attendance.
Despite free and delicious catered food and drink, the reception hall, a massive tent constructed on Old Main mall prior to the ceremony, was full of professors and staff. Students, of which there are over 4,500 attending the university in some fashion, were in the extreme minority.
Apathetic students should bear the shame of the poor attendance.
