Men’s tennis loses to Carleton 6-3

Pipers Jon Henning and Patrick Hueller each won singles matches, but it wasn’t enough, as Carleton defeated Hamline 6-3.

Henning won his No. 2 singles match against Peter Varnum in a super-tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, (10-5).
Hueller also won in a super-tiebreaker 6-1, 2-6, (10-8)

Carleton defeats women’s tennis 8-1

Carleton swept all six singles matches, defeating Hamline 8-1.

The Pipers’ only win of the day came in No. 1 doubles, where Kristen Bothun and Hilary Wilson beat Genevieve Philp and Abby Beggs 8-4.

Anderson breaks Hamline school record in the 5000-meter event

Junior distance runner Keidra Anderson broke the school record in the 5000 meters when the women’s track and field team competed at the SJU/CSB Invitational held in Collegeville, Minn.

Anderson broke Hamline outdoor school record in the 5000 meters, finishing the race in a time of 17:35.51. The junior already holds the Hamline indoor record with a time of 17:38.88.

Piper first-year Sara Burns finished second in the 800 meters, crossing the finish line in 2:21.13.

Sophomore Amanda Jones added a second-place finish in the discus. She had a throw of 112-7.

No team scores were kept at the meet.

Courrier successful at SJV Invite, wins two events, places third in another

Junior thrower Jake Courrier won two events and placed third in another when the men’s track and field team competed at the SJU Invitational in Collegeville, Minn.

Courrier won the hammer with a throw of 159-9 č more than seven feet in front of teammate Rob Oliva, who placed second in the event. Hamline had four of the top five participants in the event.

Courrier also took the discus event with a toss of 140-0. He placed third in the shotput, throwing a distance 46-6 3/4.

Courrier was one of three Pipers to win individual events. Sophomore Tony Klappa continued his strong showing in middle distance events, winning the 800 meters with a time of 1:56.79. Phillip Brondyke won the javelin with a throw of 146-10.

First-year sprinter Grant McDonald was third in both the 100 and 200 meters. Sophomore Jake Kruger added a second-place finish in the pole vault. Sophomore Aaron Smith was third in the triple jump.

No team scores were kept at the meet.

Concordia sweeps Piper baseball

Concordia scored seven runs over the final two innings to defeat Hamline 7-6 last Wednesday afternoon in Moorhead, Minn. The Cobbers completed the sweep with an 11-1 win in the night cap game.

Baseball team falls to St. John’s

The Johnnies jumped on Hamline for six runs in the first inning of game one and never trailed in the doubleheader, beating the Pipers 11-2 and 3-0 Saturday afternoon in Collegeville, Minn.
