Men’s tennis team goes 2-3 on spring break trip in Florida
The Hamline men’s tennis team earned victories over Grinnell and McHenry County College during their spring-break trip to Florida.
The Pipers beat Grinnell 6-3, taking four of six singles matches to win the duel. The team also swept McHenry 9-0 and lost a close 5-4 decision to Salve Regina.
The No. 1 doubles team of Ben Watkins and Jon Henning won three of five matches during the break.
Women’s tennis team winless over spring break, go 0-5 in Florida
Missing their No. 1 and No. 3 singles players, the Hamline women’s tennis team went 0-5 over their spring break trip in Florida.
The No. 3 doubles team of Lacy Schumann and Andrea Eilertson won three matches over the week, beating a team from Wellesley College 8-3 as well as beating Carthage 8-5.
Eilertson also won a pair of singles matches versus Palm Beach Atlantic and Cornell.
Women’s track team has strong showing at Wartburg Invitational
The women’s track team posted four personal bests at the Wartburg Invitational meet in Iowa.
Hamline women competed well starting the outdoor season with four personal best performances. Junior
Keidra Anderson breezed to the win and personal best in the 1500 meters (4:46.16).
Sophomore Melissa Francis ran a big personal best in the 1500 meters (5:03.69), and first-year Sara
Burns looked very impressive in her first college 1500 meters (4:56.15), finishing third.
Sophomore Dana Luiken added a personal best throwing the javelin (27.64); and junior Sara Warnke had a big drop in her 5000-meter time (19:38.71)
Men’s track does well at Wartburg
The season’s first outdoor meet at Wartburg yielded five personal best performances by Hamline athletes.
Hamline men competed well starting the outdoor season with five personal best performances. The throw crew picked up where they left off during the indoor season with senior Ralph Rosario (46.31), junior Jake Courrier (46.22), and sophomore Drew Jones (40.74) all flinging personal bests in the hammer.
The 5000-meter crew of sophomore Travis Bristow, first-year Brandon Gleason, and first-year Dan Steinbrecher swept the event, finishing first, second, and third.
Senior Jeff Metzdorff traveled solo to California to compete in the Stanford Invitational. He posted a national qualifying time in the 5000 meters with a personal best performance time of 14:41.66.
