Letter to the Editor: HUSC owes students an apology for ineffectiveness
This Tuesday HUSC reached a new level of irony.
For nearly an hour, the group debated the best way to properly apologize to those they offended by irresponsibly leaving their own meeting some weeks ago.
The idea was that they had been disrespectful to these students and had wasted their time, so they wanted to send a letter apologizing for their actions.
The irony of the situation is that because their debate was so long, and so pointless, they barely got past reports, thus wasting the time of everyone in the room and irresponsibly taking much-needed attention from subject matter that was actually on the agenda.
My contention is that taking time away from issues that are important to the campus is just as irresponsible as leaving halfway through a meeting. The means may not be the same, but in both cases the end result is that nothing gets done.
Furthermore, if HUSC is going to spend an entire meeting deciding how to best apologize for wasting the time of the student body, they should be writing me one as well, and, for that matter, they should be writing one to anyone who has ever had a problem with the way HUSC’s meetings are run.
