Printers named for Larry and Sue Osnes

Blacklisted

Continuing Hamline’s proud tradition of giving President Larry Osnes all the credit he is due for his continuing service to the campus community, university officials last week renamed the two abitrarily-designated x01mfs and b02un digital imagers in the basement of Bush Library “Larry” and “Sue,” respectively.

This dedication to Hamline’s own “dynamic duo” was led by Chief Information Officer Harry Pontiff, who choked back tears as he tried to explain the significance of this move to the half-dozen community members in attendance at the ceremony.

“For so, so long, we didn’t have any idea what to call these two little guys,” Pontiff said. “Now we know. Now we know.”

Larry has reportedly been performing marvelously all year, according to ITS Helpdesk Director Kipp
Manske. Particularly in the last few weeks leading up to midterms, Larry has been a “real trouper” in handling extra work, Manske said. Sue, however, has been undergoing technical treatment for chronic paper jams and toner problems.

Student helpdesk consultant Nigel Isaac welcomes the change, because it will make his job easier and help patrons develop a more close and personal relationship with their printers.

“Since b02un has been acting up and not working correctly, we’ve been having to tell people to switch to x01mfs when printing. Now, instead of memorizing all those numbers and letters, we can refer to them by the names they always should have had,” Isaac said. “Larry and Sue will make a big impact on people, I think. The names will also hopefully prevent disgruntled patrons from striking the machines, which has been known to happen.”
