HUSC Campaign Coverage: Evens-Mulé
If victorious in the HUSC presidential race, juniors Shanelle Evens and John Mulé would begin by putting students on new Hamline president Linda Hanson’s “front burner,” Evens said.
With a new administration, the opportunities for new, unprecedented ideas, and for making connections with Hanson are incredibly important, Evens said.
Mulé is not currently in HUSC, which is the pair’s balance, she said. He has the advantage of being able to reach non-HUSC students; for example, from the theater program in which Mulé is involved, and reach out to those students in HUSC.
HUSC attendance has dropped, Evens said, because HUSC has not taken up issues. As an effort to boost attendance, Evens said that her administration would take up such issues. Ideally, Evens said, every student would attend and know what the issues in the election are; however, she admitted, that is not realistic. Evens, the current HUSC treasurer, said most students don’t know they pay the student fee, despite over 50 percent of students being involved on campus.
Some highlights from their platform include: Invite Board of Trustee members to HUSC meetings and student activities, push for wireless Internet, and promote the arts and athletics.
