HUSC Campaign Coverage: Pesko-Mann

Reporter

Current HUSC vice president Mike Pesko is running for president with Laura Mann running for vice president. The two stress their experience in HUSC as the reason people should vote for them.

“First of all, both Laura and I have done an excellent job this year,” Pesko said. “We have the experience and the hard work to back up asking for people’s support this year.

“People know how much time and energy I’ve put into my work this year. I think people know how much energy Laura has put into her work this year as vice president of PRIDE and Fusion, and getting an organization up and running.” Pesko said.

“Both of us bring a lot of experience as leaders on campus. I’m here to make Hamline a better place,” Mann said. “We bring the willingness that we’re not just here to throw ideas at the students; we want to hear students’ concerns.”

he two hope to do this by continuing to hold “coffee dates” with student-organization leaders. They also want to extend their meetings beyond org leaders.

“I think I’m a pretty approachable person. People can come up and talk to me, and not just if you are an org leader,” Mann said.

Asked what separates the Pesko and Mann team from the other candidates, Pesko reiterated the team’s experience in HUSC.

“The biggest thing that separates me and Laura is our track record,” he said. “[The other candidates] were all involved in other nice things, but in terms of vice president and president, I think this year Shona and I have proven what people who are willing to work hard in those positions are able to do.”

He said the tsunami disaster relief fund is well on its way to the goal of raising $10,000 and added that he and Shona have turned HUSC around, passing amendments that have attracted national attention.

Some highlights from their platform include: Work with the MISA Office and the Coalition for Social
Change to help these organizations achieve their goals, continue to hold coffee dates with student organizations, and provide effective representation on administrative committees.
