MIAC playoffąbound St. Mary’s tripped up the Hamline’s women’s basketball team in a 75-62 road loss for the Pipers.

Cardinal Jamie Rattunde scored 20 points and had nine rebounds to lead St. Mary’s to the win.
With an early 9-6 lead in the first half, St. Mary’s (16-5, 12-5 MIAC) went on an unanswered nine-point run to lead 18-6, but the Pipers (6-14, 4-13 MIAC) cut the lead to 26-24 over a nearly five-minute run.

Hamline stayed within shot of tying the game in the second, being as close as five points, but St. Mary’s soon dashed any hopes of a Piper comeback by going on a 18-8 run.

Hamline shot 38 percent in the contest while the Cardinals shot 44 percent as a team.

Hamline’s Laurisa Ewert scored a team-high 14 points and led the team with seven boards. Carolyn Korchik sank 13 points for the Pipers.

Rattunde led four St. Mary’s players in double figures, with teammate Ashley Luehmann having a strong night for the Cardinals, scoring 19 points.

Hamline also suffered a loss to conference bottom-dweller Augsburg on Feb. 7. Auggie Rachel Cherry scored a game-high 21 points to lead host Augsburg over the Pipers in conference play.

Augsburg (3-17, 3-14 MIAC) led 36-25 at the half and never looked back, even holding a 16-point lead before the Pipers rallied to cut the score.

The Pipers went on a 11-0 run over a two-plus-minute span to cut the lead to 48-44 with 10:26 to play but it wasn’t enough to lift Hamline to the win.

The Auggies led 57-54 with 3:34 remaining before they capped the game off on a 8-2 run.

Kelly Lines had eight points for the Pipers while Korchik, Andrea Eilertson, and Allison Bratsch each tallied seven points apiece.

Hamline will cap off the season with two home games this week. The Pipers host Bethel on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m., and then face MIAC playoff team Concordia on Saturday, Feb. 19.

Tip-off for the Cobber game is at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
