Hamline student struck and killed

Hamline sophomore George Linares was struck and killed near campus by an automobile early Sunday morning.

Linares, 21, was found by a passing motorist around 1:55 a.m., according to St Paul police. He was lying unconscious in the southbound lanes of Snelling Ave., 10 feet from a crosswalk at the intersection of Van Buren Ave. He was taken by paramedics to Regions hospital, where he later died.

Linares, 21, was hit on his left side, according to preliminary autopsy results. Police said he was hit between 1:40 and 1:50 a.m.

A Hamline student said he saw and spoke to Linares at a party in a house across Snelling from Hutton
Arena around midnight on Saturday. The student said Linares did not appear to be intoxicated at that time, and had come to the party with some friends.

A memorial service will be held at Hamline on Wednesday, Dec. 8, at 6 p.m. in room 106 of the Law/

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m. at Church of the Incarnation in Minneapolis (3817 Pleasant Ave. S.). Viewing will be from noon to 2 p.m. For more information contact 612-822-2101.
The incident is still under investigation. Anyone who may have been in the area during the time of the accident should contact the St. Paul police Traffic Accident Investigation Unit at 266-5722.
