Swim teams place third at Macalester Invite
The Hamline men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams each placed third in their respective divisions at the Macalester Invitational in mid-November.
Women’s team
The women’s team finished with 276 points, behind Macalester with 459 and St. Thomas with 366.
Hamline received strong performances in the distance freestyle events, most notably in the 400-meter freestyle. Piper first-year Aly Janzen took first place in this event in a time of 4:50.75. She was followed by senior Adrianne Walls, who finished in second place with a time of 4:55.33.
Walls also did well in the 800-meter freestyle, which she won in a time of 10:05.5. Janzen placed second in the 200-meter freestyle.
The divers were led by sophomore Natalie Netzel’s third-place finish in the three-meter dive with a score of 162.3. Piper first-year Tami Klenke was fourth in the one-meter dive, scoring 164.9.
Hamline’s Dana Ketcher placed fourth in the 50-meter freestyle, finishing in 29.71. Lindsey Swanson finished fourth in both the 100- and 200-meter breaststroke.
Men’s team
The men’s team finished with a score of 22.5 points, behind invite winner St. Thomas (393.5) and Macalester (363).
First-year diver Julian Borgia won both the one- and three-meter dives, with scores of 168.35 and 184.35.
Junior John Burgess won the 200-meter freestyle event in a time of 2:09.24 and placed fourth in the 100-meter freestyle. Sophomore Ryan Beckman won the 50-meter butterfly and was third in the 200-meter backstroke event. Junior Ben Gensmer placed second in both the 100- and 200-meter breaststroke, as well as earning a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter individual medley for the Pipers.
