Junior Keidra Anderson qualifies for NCAA championships; team finishes in 11th place
At the Central Regional cross country championships in Waverly, Iowa, schools from all around the area came to showcase their endurance abilities.
One of these athletes, Hamline’s own Keidra Anderson, put on an excellent performance.
Anderson finished fourth overall out of a total of 155 runners, crossing the six-kilometer finish line in a time of 22:34.
Her performance qualified her for the NCAA national cross country championships.
She recently came off of an impressive showing at the MIAC Championships by placing fourth overall in that race as well.
Teammate Lacee Schrupp finished in 20th place with a time of 23:33.
Schrupp and Anderson have been the consistent leaders pacing the way for the women’s cross country
team.
The Pipers finished the race placing 11th out of 22 teams.
Other scorers contributing to their teams’ performance were Melissa Francis and Jackie Lawrence.
Francis finished the race in 78th place with a time of 24:55, followed closely by Lawrence in 81st place with a time of 25:00.
Hamline’s final team scorer was junior Sara Warnke, who ran the course in a time of 25:20, good for 96th place.
Warnke had a strong race considering she had been battling the flu in the week leading up to the championship race.
Other competitors for the Pipers were senior Emily Ament and first-year Victoria Bibeau.
Ament finished in 129th place and finished with a time of 26:25, a personal best. Right behind her was
Bibeau in 130th place with a time of 26:27.
The Pipers, who finished ninth at the MIAC championships, beat Concordia to move up one spot among conference teams in the NCAA Regional.
The women’s cross country team will be graduating only one senior, Ament, this year.
With the return of many talented runners, along with incoming first-years, the opportunity for improvement and the chance to move up in the MIAC ranks is quite attainable for this squad.
